Description
The Snom M53 is the no-frills DECT handset in Snom’s M5x family. It is built for sites that already run an M250 single-cell base or an M500 dual-cell base and need more cordless extensions without paying for extra radios or programmable keys. You get a 2.4-inch color screen, two softkeys, speakerphone, and up to 12 hours of narrowband talk time on two standard AAA Ni-MH cells. That mix is aimed at our customers in small offices, retail floors, clinics, and branch sites who want reliable voice first.
The Telecom Spot Take
Buy the M53 when you need more handsets, not more features. Snom left off Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm jack on purpose. That keeps the radio simple and makes battery swaps cheap when you field many units. Pair it to an M250 (sold as the M253 bundle) or an M500 and you stay inside one DECT system as the site grows. IT directors and facilities managers get zero-touch provisioning and over-the-air updates from the base. Business owners get a 120-gram handset with an antibacterial housing that is easy to issue, charge, and replace.
Key Features
- 2.4-inch true-color TFT (240 × 320). Backlit blue/white screen so staff can read caller info and menus without squinting at a tiny mono panel.
- Two context-sensitive softkeys plus a full ITU keypad. Fast access to talk, hang-up, directory, voicemail, redial, mute, and speakerphone without a crowded key layout.
- Standard AAA Ni-MH batteries (2 × 1.2 V, 850 mAh). Swap cells from stock instead of waiting on a proprietary pack. Spare pack PN 00004760 is listed by Snom.
- Talk and standby times that match a full shift. Up to 12 hours narrowband talk, up to 9 hours wideband talk, and up to 120 hours standby per the datasheet.
- Works on Snom M250 and M500 bases. Same handset can sit on a single-cell SOHO base or a dual-cell M500 as the site adds coverage and users.
- Zero-touch provisioning and OTA / SUOTA updates. The base pushes setup and firmware. Staff do not walk each handset through a manual flash.
- Antibacterial housing. Useful on shared phones in clinics, front desks, and service counters.
- Hearing aid compatible (HAC) with earpiece, mic, and loudspeaker. Built-in speakerphone with a red status LED. No Bluetooth headset path and no 3.5 mm jack.
- Internal directory key. Local phone book access from the handset menu, plus date/time sync from the base.
- Compact 120 g body. About 163 × 48 × 21 mm. Charging cradle is 75 × 80 × 33 mm and uses a 6 V / 450 mA adapter.

FAQ
Does the M53 work by itself?
No. It is a handset only. It must register to a Snom M250 or Snom M500 base. The M250 ships with an M53 as the M253 bundle.
How long does the battery last?
Snom rates two 850 mAh AAA Ni-MH cells at up to 12 hours narrowband talk, up to 9 hours wideband talk, and up to 120 hours standby.
Can I use Bluetooth headsets or a wired 3.5 mm headset?
No. Snom designed the M53 as a pure DECT handset and left those interfaces off. Use the built-in earpiece or speakerphone. Pick an M55 or M56 if you need Bluetooth.
How do I add more handsets later?
Register additional M5x handsets (M53, M55, M56, or M58) on the same M250 or M500. The M250 supports the M5x series in a single-cell layout; the M500 adds dual-cell capacity.
What is in the box?
Snom lists the M53 handset, charging cradle, battery, power adapter, and documentation.
