Description
The Valcom VIP-176A is a SIP talkback door intercom that connects to any SIP-based telephone system or Valcom Enhanced Station Port adapter over an IP network, enabling two-way voice communication at high-noise building entrances and access control points. The unit mounts in a standard double-gang electrical box, and high loudspeaker output levels cut through moderate to high ambient noise so visitors can be heard clearly from the street or a noisy lobby entrance. PoE 802.3af powers the unit through the single Ethernet cable required for installation. An optional VM-SRLY smart relay module adds door control relay capability.
The Telecom Spot Expert Review
The VIP-176A is designed for the front-door scenario where the person at the intercom is standing in wind, rain, or traffic noise and the person answering is at a standard SIP desk phone inside. The high loudspeaker output keeps the visitor audible to the phone user without requiring the visitor to shout, and the SIP architecture means any authorized extension on the telephone system can answer the door call — not just a dedicated intercom station. The standard double-gang box mounting makes it compatible with the most common commercial electrical rough-in, and network activity LEDs simplify troubleshooting during commissioning.
