Description
The AT&T SynJ SB67148 is a 4-line cordless expansion deskset for SynJ small-business phone systems. Offices use it to put a full desk phone on a second workstation without pulling a new telephone line to that desk. DECT 6.0 wireless to the base and a corded handset with speakerphone are the two specs that matter most at purchase. This is not a standalone phone. It must be registered to a compatible SynJ base before it will place or receive calls.
The Telecom Spot Take
Buy the SB67148 when you already have a SynJ 4-line base and want a sit-down phone instead of another walking handset. Plug in the included AC adapter, register the deskset at the base, and that station shares the same four lines, push-to-talk intercom, transfer, and voicemail the rest of the system uses. Choose this over the SB67108 handset when the person lives at a desk and wants line lights, a coiled-cord handset, and a speakerphone in front of them. Do not buy it as a first phone. Without a SynJ base it will not work.
Key Features
- 1- to 4-line deskset for an existing SynJ system: All four lines appear on this station, so a private office or back-room desk can pick up the same calls as the front counter.
- No extra phone line to the desk: DECT 6.0 links the deskset to the SynJ base. You power the unit with the included AC adapter instead of running a new analog line to that room.
- Corded handset plus hands-free speakerphone: Use the coiled-cord handset for a normal desk-phone feel, or hit speakerphone when you need both hands on a keyboard or a packing slip.
- Push-to-talk intercom: Page from base to deskset or from deskset to other extensions without placing an outside call. Useful when you need someone in another room right now.
- System expansion up to 10 cordless devices: Register additional SB67148 desksets and SB67108 handsets to the base. The manufacturer allows a maximum of 10 desksets/handsets, or 9 of those plus one cordless headset.
- Call transfer and 3-party conferencing: Move a live call to the base or another extension, including consultative transfer, or bring a third person onto the call from this desk.
- Auto attendant and voicemail on each line: The SynJ system can answer outside calls, play a directory, and route callers. This deskset has a mailbox key for general or assigned voicemail, plus call screening and forwarding to voicemail.
- 100-name/number directory plus 10 speed-dial and 10 intercom locations: Keep vendors, customers, and inside extensions on the deskset so staff are not flipping a paper list.
- Caller ID and 50-name/number call log: Name and number show when your phone company provides Caller ID/Call Waiting. The last 50 records stay on the deskset so missed calls are easy to return.
- Lighted line indicators and blue backlit keypad/display: See which lines are busy at a glance and use the large lighted display in a dim office.
- 2.5 mm headset jack, DND, and everyday call tools: Plug in a corded headset, silence the station with Do Not Disturb, and use mute, hold, chain dialing, last-10 redial, and deskset paging through a normal workday.
- Backup battery for power loss: The included rechargeable battery (replacement part 27910) keeps the deskset working if AC power drops. Charge it in the compartment with the supplied adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the SB67148 work by itself?
No. The SB67148 is an expansion deskset only. It has to be registered to a compatible AT&T SynJ base (SB67118, SB67138, or SB67158) before it can place or receive calls. If you do not already have that base, start with the base, then add desksets.
How is this different from the SB67108 handset?
Both are 4-line SynJ accessories that use DECT 6.0 and push-to-talk intercom. The SB67148 is a desktop set with a coiled-cord handset, speakerphone, lighted line keys, and an AC adapter plus backup battery. The SB67108 is a portable handset that sits on a charger. Buy the deskset for a fixed workstation and the handset for people who leave their desk.
How many SB67148 desksets can one SynJ system use?
The user’s manual allows a maximum of 10 desksets and handsets combined, or 9 of those devices plus one cordless headset. New desksets are numbered in the order you register them (Deskset 2 through Deskset 10). Register each unit at the base before you put it into service.
What is in the box?
The package includes the deskset, deskset power adapter, backup battery, handset with the coiled cord already installed, user’s manual, quick start guide, and an additional directory card. A SynJ telephone base is sold separately.
Does this deskset need its own telephone line?
No. AT&T designed the SB67148 so it does not take a telephone-line connection. Register it to the SynJ base and power it with the included AC adapter. The four outside lines terminate at the base, not at this deskset.
How is the deskset powered if the office loses electricity?
Day to day it runs from the included AC adapter (6 VDC at 400 mA). A charged backup battery (part 27910) lets the deskset keep working during a power failure. The manufacturer rates backup talk time at up to 12 hours on the corded handset and up to 7 hours on speakerphone or a corded headset, with standby up to three days.
