New Algo 8312 Guide: Features, Radio Integration & Real-World Use Cases - The Telecom Spot

Phone systems, overhead speakers, handheld radios and building sensors often operate as separate communication systems. The Algo 8312 Expanded IP Paging Adapter is designed to help connect them.

Released in August 2026, the 8312 builds on Algo's popular 8301 paging adapter with new capabilities for compatible handheld radios, additional physical inputs and more advanced communication workflows. That can make it particularly useful for warehouses, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, schools and other organizations that need to reach people across several different types of equipment.

If that sounds complicated, the basic idea is actually pretty simple: the 8312 acts as a bridge between systems that might otherwise operate separately.

The Algo 8312 is a brand-new product, with availability currently expected during Q4 2026. Contact us for the latest stock status, pre-order options, or a more specific ETA.

What Is the Algo 8312? New Features & Capabilities

The easiest way to understand the Algo 8312 is to picture a business that already has several ways to communicate.

Office employees may use a SIP phone system or UC platform. Warehouse or retail employees may carry handheld radios. The building may already have an amplifier and overhead PA speakers. There may also be buttons, door contacts or other sensors that need to trigger alerts or announcements.

The 8312 can sit between those systems and help them work together. It supports SIP paging, existing analog amplifiers, compatible multicast endpoints, compatible handheld radio workflows and physical inputs for automated actions.

In plain English: instead of automatically replacing a working PA system or keeping every communication method completely separate, the 8312 gives you ways to connect old and new equipment.

8312 or 8312-IC? The standard 8312 is the SIP version. The 8312-IC is the InformaCast version for organizations using Singlewire InformaCast. Algo lists Singlewire InformaCast support on the standard 8312 as requiring an additional license, so if InformaCast is part of your system, confirm the appropriate version and licensing before ordering.

Handheld Radio Integration

One of the biggest additions is support for compatible base-station-free handheld radio systems. As of October 2026, Motorola Curve is the supported radio platform for direct donor-radio integration. Algo notes that other handheld radio systems may also be possible depending on compatibility and cabling requirements.

A dedicated donor radio connects to the 8312, allowing SIP or UC audio to be extended onto the radio network. The 8312 can also support radio-to-PA workflows, allowing radio-originated audio to be routed through facility paging speakers.

12 Additional Sensor Inputs

The 8312 also adds 12 dry-contact sensor inputs. These can work with compatible normally-open or normally-closed devices such as switches, door contacts and other sensors.

Instead of requiring someone to manually initiate every event, a physical trigger can start a configured response. Depending on the setup, that could include a prerecorded message, paging event, SIP call, endpoint action, strobe activation or another automated workflow.

Separate Paging and Radio Audio Control

The 8312 also provides independent paging and radio audio outputs and volume controls. This gives installers more flexibility when determining where different types of audio should go and how those outputs should behave.

Algo 8312 Use Cases & Deployment Scenarios

Not every business will need every capability. Open the examples below that sound most like your environment.

Connect a SIP phone system to an existing PA

Suppose your building already has an analog amplifier connected to ceiling speakers or paging horns. The speakers still work perfectly well, but the organization has moved to a SIP-based business phone system.

The 8312 can provide line-level paging audio to the existing amplifier, allowing the business to modernize the way pages are initiated without automatically replacing the entire speaker system.

One possible setup:
Algo 8312 connected to your existing analog amplifier and paging speakers, with your SIP or VoIP phone system providing the paging source.

If this is all you need, however, the Algo 8301 may be the simpler and more economical choice. The extra capabilities of the 8312 become more valuable when radios, multiple sensors or more advanced workflows are involved.

Reach employees who carry handheld radios

Imagine office employees using SIP phones while employees on a warehouse floor, loading dock or retail floor carry Motorola Curve radios.

The 8312 can bridge those environments using one dedicated Motorola Curve radio. That donor radio stays with the 8312 rather than being carried by an employee and acts as the bridge to the other Curve radios employees use.

The dedicated donor radio connects to the 8312 using Algo's 97-00901 Radio Connector Cable. A SIP announcement can then be extended onto the Curve radio network, while supported configurations can also route radio-originated audio into the facility PA system.

What you would need:
  • Algo 8312 Expanded IP Paging Adapter
  • One dedicated Motorola Curve donor radio that remains with the 8312
  • Algo 97-00901 Radio Connector Cable
  • The compatible Motorola Curve radios used by employees

Compatibility note: As of October 2026, Motorola Curve is the supported radio platform for this direct donor-radio integration. Algo notes that compatibility with other radio systems may depend on the radio system and cabling requirements.

There is also a one-time programming consideration. The dedicated Curve donor radio needs to remain powered continuously, so Algo instructs installers to disable its Auto Power Off setting using Motorola Customer Programming Software. That programming step requires the Motorola PMKN4154A programming cable.

The Algo radio connector cable is sold separately. Contact us for current availability and lead times.

Keep your existing PA and add new IP speakers where needed

Modernizing a paging system doesn't necessarily mean replacing every existing speaker.

The 8312 can work with an analog amplifier while also acting as a multicast transmitter for compatible IP endpoints. This makes a hybrid approach possible: keep existing analog paging where it works well and add compatible IP speakers or paging endpoints only where new or additional coverage is needed.

Algo IP speakers are one straightforward option within the Algo ecosystem. Depending on the application, examples include the Algo 8188 IP Ceiling Speaker, Algo 8198 PoE+ Ceiling Speaker or Algo 8186 IP Horn Speaker.

One possible setup:
Algo 8312 + existing analog PA + compatible IP speakers or paging endpoints in areas where you want additional coverage.
Add visual alerts for loud or high-traffic areas

Not every alert should depend entirely on someone hearing a speaker.

Compatible visual notification devices can be incorporated alongside paging endpoints. That can be useful in warehouses, manufacturing areas, busy retail environments or other places where a visual cue can reinforce an announcement.

One Algo option is the Algo 8138 IP Color Visual Alerter, which can participate in an Algo IP notification environment.

One possible setup:
Algo 8312 + paging speakers + compatible visual notification devices.
Automate alerts with buttons and sensors

A button press or sensor event can automatically trigger a configured paging, call or notification action.

The 8312 can work with compatible buttons, contacts and dry-contact sensors. Algo also offers accessories such as the Algo 1202 Call Button for use with the 8312's dedicated Smart Relay connection.

Simple examples:
  • A button is pressed → initiate a configured paging or call action.
  • A door contact changes state → trigger an announcement or notification.
  • A facility sensor activates → start a predefined communication workflow.

In simple terms: Algo accessories like call buttons use their own dedicated connection, while the 12 extra sensor inputs are for things like switches, door contacts and other compatible sensors.

Using the Algo 8312 With Microsoft Teams

The Algo 8312 supports integration with the Microsoft Teams SIP Gateway, giving Teams environments a way to extend communications beyond computers, headsets and desk phones.

In a properly configured deployment, the 8312 can help extend Teams-based paging into existing PA infrastructure and compatible IP endpoints. Its expanded radio capabilities can also bring supported handheld-radio users into the broader communication environment.

Think of the bigger picture: The Algo 8312 can take a page from your SIP or UC platform and extend it to an existing PA system, compatible IP devices, supported handheld radios, or multiple destinations at once.

Algo 8312 vs. 8301: Which Model Better Fits Your Paging Needs?

The 8312 doesn't replace the 8301 for every installation. Both models can bridge SIP-based communications with existing paging equipment, but the 8312 adds capabilities aimed at more complex environments involving supported handheld radios, additional sensors and automated workflows.

Feature or Need Algo 8301 Algo 8312

Best fit Straightforward SIP-to-PA paging and hybrid analog/IP paging Paging environments that also involve supported radios, more sensors or more complex workflows

For a straightforward project where you mainly need to connect a SIP or UC platform to an existing analog amplifier and PA system, the Algo 8301 may still be the more practical choice.

The Algo 8312 becomes more compelling when your system also needs to communicate with supported handheld radios, respond to multiple physical sensors or contacts, or support more advanced event-driven workflows.

Algo also notes that radio systems that already use a base station or control unit may be better suited to an 8301-based integration depending on the system.

Other Interesting Algo 8312 Features & Capabilities

Radio integration and the additional sensor inputs are some of the most notable additions, but the 8312 has plenty of other functionality built in.

  • Powered by PoE. The 8312 can receive power and network connectivity through its Ethernet connection, helping simplify installation.
  • Stream background music. The 8312 can distribute audio from an online radio stream, a stored audio file or a compatible source connected to its AUX input.
  • Schedule bells, announcements and other events. The built-in scheduler can automate recurring tones, announcements, audio streams, SIP calls and other configured actions.
  • Create multicast paging zones. The 8312 supports multicast configurations with up to 50 zones.
  • Work with multiple types of compatible IP endpoints. Multicast can extend communication to speakers, paging adapters, displays, visual alerters and supported multicast-enabled phones.
  • Trigger actions through REST APIs. API requests can be incorporated into configured events and workflows, giving integrators additional ways to interact with compatible devices and systems.
  • Support secure SIP environments. The 8312 includes features such as TLS and SRTP along with web-based configuration, provisioning and device management options.

Those are only some of the available settings and workflows. For detailed installation instructions, configuration options and current firmware capabilities, see Algo's official 8312 Expanded IP Paging Adapter User Guide.

Best-Fit Environments for the Algo 8312

The 8312 is particularly useful in environments where communications need to reach people in different locations and through different types of equipment.

  • Warehouses and distribution centers
  • Manufacturing facilities
  • Retail stores and large retail properties
  • Schools and campuses
  • Healthcare and commercial facilities
  • Organizations with existing analog PA equipment
  • Businesses using compatible handheld radios
  • Facilities that want buttons, contacts or sensors to trigger automated communications

The value isn't necessarily in replacing everything a business already owns.

A facility with a working analog PA can keep using it. Compatible IP speakers or paging endpoints can be added where they're useful. Compatible radio users can be incorporated into communication workflows, while buttons and sensors can automate specific alerts and actions.

The Bottom Line

The Algo 8312 packs a lot of functionality into one device, and its value becomes clearer when you look at the systems it can connect.

Your SIP or UC platform can reach an existing PA. Paging can extend to compatible IP endpoints and supported handheld radios. Existing analog equipment can work alongside newer IP devices, and buttons or sensors can trigger configured communication workflows automatically.

For simpler SIP-to-analog paging projects, the Algo 8301 may still be the better fit. For environments that also need supported radio integration, additional sensor inputs or more advanced workflows, the Algo 8312 opens up more possibilities.
